Towed

What To Do If Your Car Is Towed

So, you ended up parking in the wrong location, and when you returned to your car, it wasn’t there anymore. Your vehicle has been towed. Now, what should you do?

As frustrating as this situation is, there are a few steps you can take to make retrieving your car and paying the fines as painless as possible.

First things first, stay calm.

Once you realize your car has been towed, contact the towing company to retrieve it. However, becoming angry and irritable will not expedite the process of retrieving your car in your conversation with the towing company. Accept your fate, stay level-headed, and realize that you’re going to have to pay the fine for parking in the zone you did. Remaining focused and polite in your conversation with the towing company will make the process of retrieving your car as painless as possible.

Find the towing company’s number to call.

If your car has been towed, there are likely “No Parking” signs somewhere close by that list the name and number of the towing company responsible for removing vehicles from the area. Once you locate the number, give it a ring to talk to the towing company to determine where your car is and how you can retrieve it.

Nashville has a great resource to find your car if it was towed here.

Ask about the charges and have the funds ready to pay.

Depending on the towing company’s charges, you may have to pay additional fees beyond the towing cost for your car. Calling and retrieving your vehicle sooner rather than later is likely in your best interest, as some towing companies will charge you extra the longer your impounded car stays in their lot.

Have all your documents on hand.

When you go to retrieve your car, the towing company will generally request to see your driver’s license, your proof of ownership, vehicle registration, and your car insurance. You also may have to take care of fines for parking tickets. With documents in hand and the funds to settle the impoundment fees, you should be all set to retrieve your car and put this incident in the past.
