Signs You Need To Take Your Car To The Shop

Perhaps you’re driving down a road less traveled, and you hear a suspicious noise coming from your car’s engine, or you smell something strange coming from your vehicle’s HVAC systems. You made it through this trip just fine, but you’re worried about your car’s next journey. If these thoughts cross your mind, you may be due for a trip to the auto repair shop. Taking extra precautions to fix your car before it’s completely broken is always the better option, and you certainly don’t have to be the car whisperer to know that it’s due for repairs! We aim to educate you on some warning signs your vehicle can present to you before it needs to go to the shop and some things you should know about your car during emergencies.

What Warning Signs Should You Look Out For If Your Car Is Due For Repairs?

  • If you press the brake pedal and it feels “soft,” your brakes need fixing! Having functional brakes are critical to avoiding an auto accident, so don’t ignore this sign if it comes up.
  • That mysterious noise you heard earlier- was it your exhaust system? If so, this red flag needs to be addressed immediately. A failed exhaust system can lead to leaks that can make you and your passengers fall ill if it enters the car.
  • If it’s been more than a year since you had your car checked, this may be a sign you need to head over to the auto repair shop! Just like we humans need annual checkups to ensure we’re healthy even if we’re not sick, your vehicle needs an “annual checkup” for scheduled maintenance. You’ll thank us later!

Dial A For Automobile: What Should You Know About Your Car In Case Of An Emergency?

You may know your car’s color, year, and model, but those characteristics aren’t enough if you are stuck in the middle of the road. Know your car’s VIN, which, in its essence, is your car’s DNA.

  • The Vehicle Identification Number stays with your car for the rest of its life and is a 17-digit number that includes the engine size, manufacture date, place, make, and model of your vehicle. Life hack: you don’t have to memorize this number, although it doesn’t hurt! The best place to find your car’s VIN during an emergency is where the dashboard meets the windshield.
  • Check your vehicle’s dashboard lights! The owner’s manual will tell you what each color means, and you’ll be able to closely watch your vehicle’s overall health by monitoring the dashboard lights.
  • While at the shop, ask your mechanic to check some of the key components of your car before an emergency; these include battery and ignition systems, brakes, exhaust systems, windshield wiper equipment, and other parts
